For nearly seven decades, Triangle Brick Company has perfected the art and science of brick manufacturing. As one of the most highly automated brick manufacturers in the United States, we’ve transformed traditional brick-making into a precision-driven process that combines time-honored craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology.
When you choose brick for your project, you’re selecting one of the oldest and most enduring building materials known to mankind. But modern brick manufacturing is far more sophisticated than the sun-dried mud bricks of ancient civilizations. At Triangle Brick, we process 26 tons of raw material per hour through our state-of-the-art facilities, producing more than 600 million bricks for sale annually.
Here’s how we do it (better).

Every brick starts in the earth. At Triangle Brick, our plants are turn-key operations that begin with on-site mining of native raw materials. This isn’t a matter of convenience; it’s a commitment to quality control. By mining our own clay and shale deposits, we ensure consistency in the raw materials that form the foundation of every brick we produce. The composition of these natural materials directly influences the color, texture, and performance characteristics of the finished product. Our mining operations carefully extract clay and shale from deposits that have been geologically evaluated for their mineral content and properties. This precision at the very first step sets the stage for excellence in every brick that follows. You can learn more about our mining process here!

Once mined, the raw materials must be broken down to workable sizes. Our crushing equipment reduces large chunks of clay and shale into smaller, more manageable pieces. This initial size reduction is critical — it prepares the material for further processing and ensures uniformity as we move through subsequent stages of production. The crushing process utilizes heavy-duty equipment specifically designed to handle the toughest materials while preserving the integrity of the clay’s mineral composition. This stage is all about transforming nature’s raw offerings into something our precision machinery can work with.

After crushing, materials are moved to storage facilities where they’re carefully managed and blended. Storage isn’t passive — it’s an active part of our quality control process. During this phase, we can combine different clay types to achieve specific performance characteristics and color profiles. Our storage systems are designed for efficiency and precision. With multiple plants across North Carolina and Texas, we maintain strategic inventories that ensure continuous production and consistent product availability. This operational excellence means your project never pauses waiting for a product delivery.

The grinding stage takes material preparation to the next level. Here, crushed materials are further pulverized and refined to achieve the exact particle size and consistency required for brick formation. Modern grinding equipment allows us to control the fineness of the material with remarkable precision. This stage also incorporates water and other materials as needed. The goal is to create a workable mixture with the optimal moisture content and plasticity — one that will hold its shape during forming yet remain pliable enough to be molded into precise dimensions.

This is where raw materials become recognizable brick shapes. At Triangle Brick, we utilize some of the world’s highest-capacity industrial robots for our entire process, end-to-end. Our forming equipment extrudes the prepared clay mixture through steel dies, creating a continuous column of material that’s then cut to individual brick lengths. The facing process is where aesthetics meet engineering. Whether smooth, textured, or wirecut, the face of each brick is formed with exacting standards. Our automated systems ensure dimensional accuracy and consistency — critical factors when qualified masons lay thousands of bricks in a single project. Special shapes and custom sizes are also produced during this stage to meet the specific needs of architects and builders.

Freshly formed bricks are carefully arranged on kiln cars — specialized rail-mounted platforms that will carry them through the drying and firing process. The setting arrangement is methodical, ensuring proper air circulation around each brick and maximizing kiln capacity without compromising quality. Our automation technology handles this process with precision, positioning each brick for optimal heat exposure during the firing process. This careful arrangement prevents deformation and ensures uniform firing throughout the entire kiln load.

This is where chemistry and physics transform clay into brick. The process occurs in three critical phases:

No two bricks are identical — and that’s intentional. The natural variations in clay composition and firing create subtle color differences that give brick its timeless appeal. However, these variations must be managed to ensure color consistency across an entire building project. That’s where our proprietary color blending process comes in. We carefully blend bricks from different production runs to achieve the color range specified for each product line.
This ensures that when your project is complete, the color variation is pleasingly uniform rather than noticeably patchy. Our packaging innovations set industry standards. Triangle Brick pioneered Half Pack™ Technology, designed specifically with masons in mind. Pre-blended for color stability, strapped for simplicity, and safer on every scaffold, our packaging delivers less labor, lower costs, and more jobsite confidence.

The final stage of our manufacturing process extends to your jobsite. Triangle Brick maintains extensive inventories across our North Carolina and Texas facilities, with a fleet of delivery trucks ready to roll — on time, every time. Learn more about our delivery services here! Our logistics capabilities mean you have access to the brick you need when you need it. With more than 100 brick choices spanning eight sizes, eight color families, and six collections, we maintain an inventory depth to support projects of any scale and size. From plant to project, our fleet of over 100 delivery trucks ensures your materials arrive as promised.
Since our founding in 1959, Triangle Brick has been committed to leading the brick industry in innovation. We were among the first brick companies in the United States to completely automate the manufacturing process, and today our plants remain among the most technologically advanced in the industry. Every brick we manufacture meets or exceeds ASTM standard specifications. Our manufacturing process incorporates recycled materials where possible, reflecting our commitment to sustainability without compromising performance. And as the North American base for the Röben Tonbaustoffe family — one of the most respected brickmakers worldwide — we bring six generations of European craftsmanship to American construction.
When you choose Triangle Brick Company brick for sale, you’re not just selecting a building material; you’re selecting a legacy. You’re partnering with a team of dedicated professionals who understand that your project’s success depends on quality products delivered with exceptional service. That’s the Triangle Brick difference — nearly 70 years strong and still setting the standard.
